Imam Shafi‘i said: “What you said is true. My response is this: I am certain that your food is halal. That is why I ate well. The food of the righteous is a cure for illness. Your food has been a treatment for me. Last night, I did not sleep even a little. While lying on this bed, I derived seventy-two مسائل (juristic rulings) from the Qur’an and Hadith. Because of that, I did not get time to perform نماز (prayer). Since I did not sleep, my wudu (ablution) was not broken either.” (Alf Qissa wa Qissa, 326) This incident shows the greatness of knowledge. Some people mistakenly think that scholars engage less in worship. This misunderstanding comes from assuming that only prayer, dhikr, and salawat are acts of worship.
