In the journey of spirituality, there will not be a seeker who has not heard of Shaykh Abul Hasan Ali Shaduli (R), a famous and prominent Auliya of Allah ﷻ. He is the founder of the Shadhiliyya, one of the most widespread Sufi orders in the world, whose influence stretches from North Africa through the Arab world to the furthest corners of Southeast Asia.

Born in Morocco around 593 AH / 1196 CE, he grew up in a family known for piety and learning. From a young age he was drawn to the spiritual path, travelling extensively in search of a true guide. He eventually found his shaykh in Sidi Abd al-Salam ibn Mashish in Morocco, who guided him to spiritual mastery.

My Lord, You are my goal and Your pleasure is what I seek. Grant me the ability to know You and love You.

Imam Shadhuli settled in Tunisia and then in Alexandria, Egypt, where he taught and guided thousands of disciples. His method emphasised the inner dimensions of Islam — the purification of the heart, reliance on God, and love for the Prophet ﷺ. He passed away in 656 AH / 1258 CE while on Hajj, and his shrine in Humaythira (Egypt) remains a place of visitation.

His teachings were preserved and transmitted through his disciples, most notably Imam Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi and the great Imam Ibn Ata Allah al-Iskandari, whose Hikam (Book of Wisdom) continues to illuminate hearts to this day.

If one intends Allah subhanwutala to conceal your faults, then conceal the secrets of the people. Allah Subhanahu Taala is the best of concealers and likes the one who hides from slaves.
